Essentially a big ABS plastic box with two big roller blade wheels at one end and a zip-on backpack for a cover, my bag had been to the Caribbean twice and Okinawa once in just 13 months. And to Izu by train once. It didn't survive the trip back from Vancouver to Narita (via Seattle) on April 13th, however.

I never noticed that one wheel was broken because, at Narita, it came off the carousel onto a cart, which I wheeled through Customs to the Kuroneko Yamato counter for home delivery right to my front door.

I finally noticed the damage on Sunday April 24, when I packed the bag for Okinawa and tried to wheel it to the Seven Eleven for shipment to the minshuku. The deadline was fast approaching, however, so I had no time to go into town to buy a replacement. All I needed was a container—I wasn't going to be dragging it around once I got where I was going—so I decided to leave things until I got back.

When I took to my diving supply shop for repairs, the verdict from the manufacturer was irrepairable. This close up shows why: the axle mount is little more than a hole in the plastic.
