which are developed inthem, into areolar tissue;becoming denser in struo- j turc, firmer and tougher,and finally acquiring ves-sels in the manner for-merly described (p. 138);, also becoming incorpo-rated with the texturefrom which the exuda-tion has taken place—and from which, indeed,it can scarcely be distin-guished on section. After a time, conside-rable contraction takesplace in the granulations,from condensation of their texture. The edges of the wound, originallyseparated by their own elasticity and the products of inflammation, areagain approximated. The granulations come to the level of the adja-cent integumental surface; but covered only with their own transientand fluid secretion. Their permanent investment has still to be effected,by cuticular formation; that is the last part of the process of cure, andis termed Cicatrization.
